In a recent interview, Qi Quansheng, Chair of the Shanghai Overseas Chinese Federation, provided valuable insights into a representative delegation’s visit to Australia from September 4 to 8. This visit was organized at the invitation of the Australia-China Business Summit and the Australia Shanghai Chamber of Commerce.

While in Sydney, Qi emphasized the progress Shanghai has made as part of China’s modernization efforts, specifically pointing out advancements in the city’s “Five Centers.” He discussed Shanghai’s competitive advantages, industrial landscape, and business environment, and shared exciting details about the upcoming China International Import Expo (CIIE) as well as the 2024 themed events titled “Connecting Five Continents, Advancing with Shanghai.” Qi expressed his hope that members of the Australian Chinese community would actively participate in the CIIE, promoting investment in Shanghai and fostering deeper collaboration between China and Australia.

During their visit, the delegation also met with over 20 representatives from academia, participating in a roundtable discussion organized by the Australia-China Cultural and Economic Promotion Association, with support from both the Shanghai Business Association of Australia and the Australian Chinese Alumni Association. This gathering featured a dialogue titled “My Connection to Shanghai” in collaboration with the Australia International Cultural Industry Association.

On September 7, the delegation continued their engagement with the Australia International Cultural Industry Association during the “My Connection to Shanghai” event. They explored local Chinese businesses, attended the launch and seminar for the “International Cloud Competition” project at Victoria University in Melbourne, and networked with the Federation of Chinese Associations in Victoria.

The delegation comprised representatives from the overseas liaison departments of both the Shanghai Overseas Chinese Federation and the Huangpu District Overseas Chinese Federation. After a successful trip to Australia, they headed to Malaysia to participate in the World Chinese Business Conference and other related events.
