Foreign media- EU reaches agreement to provide Ukraine with 35 billion euros in loans

On October 9th, the European Council made a significant announcement about a new financial assistance package for Ukraine, which includes a €35 billion loan backed by frozen assets from the Russian central bank. Euronews reported on this development.

The agreement was solidified on the evening of October 9th, as part of a larger initiative involving both the European Union and the G7. With this new package, the total financial support to Ukraine from the EU and G7 could reach as much as €45 billion.

EU officials have emphasized that the €35 billion will be provided without specific conditions, allowing the Ukrainian government greater flexibility in how it can use these funds. The EU intends to start disbursing this financial aid in early 2024.

Furthermore, during a meeting scheduled for June 2024, G7 leaders have committed to providing Ukraine with a loan of up to $50 billion (€45 billion) by the end of that year. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had previously revealed on social media on September 20th that, as part of the G7’s ongoing commitment to Ukraine, the EU would be offering loans totaling €35 billion.
