Sinner advanced to the men’s singles final in straight games, the first Italian tennis player

Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked male tennis player, made history today by becoming the first Italian to reach the men’s singles final at the US Open. He achieved this remarkable feat by defeating Britain’s rising star, Jack Draper, in straight sets.

According to reports from AFP, Sinner, who previously claimed the title at the Australian Open this year, won with scores of 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), and 6-2. He will compete for the championship on September 8 against either American players Taylor Fritz or Frances Tiafoe.

Draper is the first British man to reach the semi-finals at the US Open since Andy Murray won the tournament in 2012. Unfortunately, he struggled during the match, appearing unwell, and even had to leave the court briefly due to vomiting.

Sinner expressed his camaraderie with Draper, stating, “I know Jack very well; we are good friends off the court.” Notably, Sinner hit 43 winners during the match but also sustained a wrist injury after a fall.

Reflecting on the intensity of the match, Sinner remarked, “It was a very tough match. He’s difficult to beat, so I’m really happy to be in the final.”
