Ezhou, Hubei Province builds real-fire training system for cargo aircraft

On October 17, 2023, reports emerged from the Hubei International Logistics Airport Company regarding the launch of China’s first real-fire training system for cargo aircraft, now operational at the Hua Lake International Airport in Ezhou, Hubei Province.

The initial phase of the real-fire training system was demonstrated on October 16, showcasing its capabilities. The training facility spans 30 acres and features 12 ignition points designed to simulate various fire scenarios, including engine fires, landing gear fires, and cargo compartment fires, among others. This system aims to replicate disaster incidents encompassing the full spectrum of cargo aircraft operations, while also accommodating passenger aircraft scenarios. It provides a safe and versatile training environment for firefighting teams.

Additionally, the facility includes a smoke and heat maze training device, a six-degree-of-freedom fire truck simulator, and a virtual training space specifically for Ezhou Airport. These resources are intended to facilitate comprehensive training for civil aviation firefighters, command personnel, and airport ground support teams in aviation firefighting and rescue operations.

The first training demonstration successfully simulated a scenario where smoke alarms activated in the main cargo hold during the approach phase, followed by the aircraft veering off the runway upon landing and an engine catching fire, accompanied by flowing ground fire. Emergency responders efficiently addressed the situation, showcasing their proficiency in emergency response and incident management.

Looking ahead, Ezhou Hua Lake International Airport aims to develop this base into a well-managed, fully equipped, and leading national training center for real-fire scenarios involving cargo aircraft, providing comprehensive and professional training to airports across the country. This initiative is set to strengthen the foundations of civil aviation fire safety.
