Hunan received more than 33.45 million tourists during the National Day holiday, and new business formats were favored

On October 7, the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism revealed some exciting statistics regarding tourism during the National Day holiday. According to their analysis of mobile signal big data, Hunan welcomed an astonishing 33.45 million tourists, representing a remarkable 25.78% increase compared to last year. Additionally, total tourist spending during the week-long celebration is estimated to have reached 38.26 billion yuan, marking a 14.6% year-over-year rise.

Hunan made a vibrant impression during the National Day celebrations by offering a wide range of cultural and tourism activities. From dazzling light shows and an aviation carnival to traditional Tujia bonfire gatherings and captivating Yao ethnic dance performances, the holiday experience was markedly enriched. Exciting new tourism formats and immersive experiences gained traction, such as the “Wukong NPC Interaction” event in Chenzhou, themed “The Great King Calls Me to Patrol the Mountains,” which provided an engaging cultural experience for attendees. In Shaoyang, innovative initiatives like “Share a Photo to Win Yunshan Tickets” invited tourists to explore the rich Miao culture. Loudi contributed to the festivities with a lively night market at Sunshui Park Square, featuring traditional Chinese medicine booths that merged healthcare, entertainment, and community spirit.

The recent Hunan Tourism Development Conference, held in Hengyang in late September, generated significant interest and attracted many visitors. Throughout the holiday, major attractions in Hengyang, such as Huayan Peak, Baowei Li, and the Jiangxi Industrial Culture Tourism Street, along with the bustling snacks street on Municipal Road, became focal points for tourists. The “Three湘Hengyun Flower Fire Market” echoed the lively atmosphere reminiscent of “Qingcao Bridge’s Wine Hundred Families.” Exciting immersive night tours, such as adventures on Dongzhou Island and along the Xiang River, offered visitors a compelling glimpse into Hengyang’s cultural richness. Mount Heng proved to be a popular destination for picnickers, particularly at the Mid-mountain Pavilion, where a couplet that reads, “Follow the path, but strive to reach the halfway point; If the heart is not far, do not shy away from the effort to ascend the peak,” drew many visitors.

Throughout the holiday, family trips and self-driving tours were the most favored options, with short-distance travel and rural tourism especially popular. Agricultural sightseeing and fruit-picking in Shaoyang’s outskirts became hot spots for those seeking leisure, blending scenic views, delightful fruit sampling, family-style dining, and local traditions. Popular self-driving routes featured landmarks such as Lingling Ancient City, Jiuyishan, Yangming Mountain, Shunhuang Mountain, Goulanyao Village, and Tianhe Yao Pool.
