In May, World Journal’s anti-hate forum was officially launched, with political, business and academic circles speaking out for Asians

In the latest edition of the “Stop Hate, Embrace共榮” forum, we’ve brought together four prominent figures from the San Francisco Bay Area’s political and academic landscapes to amplify their voices for the Asian community. The “Stop Asian Hate” movement has emerged as a vital national initiative, spearheaded by Asian Americans advocating for racial equality and actively combatting discrimination. This movement marks a pivotal moment for the Asian community as it tackles the multifaceted issues of ethnic equality in the United States. Over the past three years, it has galvanized increased political engagement from Asian communities, infusing the struggle for equality with renewed energy.

The forum will feature distinguished guests including Jeff Lee, chairman of the Wah Ying Club; Evan Low, a candidate for the 16th district of the U.S. Congress; Dr. Wei-Chien Lee, a licensed psychologist and professor at San Jose State University; and Russell Jeung, an Asian Studies professor at San Francisco State University.

Each speaker will share insights about the Wah Ying Club, which boasts a 90-year history of promoting communication and collaboration among minority groups, thereby sustaining momentum in the fight against anti-Asian hate. They will also discuss the Asian Pacific Islander Equity Budget—a groundbreaking $166.5 million investment, the largest of its kind in California, aimed at addressing anti-Asian crimes and advancing demands for equality. Furthermore, they will explore the psychological impact of anti-Asian sentiments on individuals and the broader transformations occurring within the Asian community.
