2024 -Belt and Road- International Sailing Race (Beihai Station, China) begins

On October 10, 2024, the “Belt and Road” International Sailing Regatta launched its first event in Beihai, Guangxi. This year’s race features 30 high-level teams from various countries and regions, including China, Malaysia, Croatia, Turkey, Italy, France, and South Africa.

Running from October 10 to October 12, the competition includes both course racing and long-distance events. The regatta marks the beginning of the 2024 “Belt and Road” International Sailing Series, which is supported by the World Sailing Federation as well as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s Party Committee and government. For three consecutive years, from 2022 to 2024, this series has been included in the World Sailing Federation’s annual calendar. Additional events are scheduled to take place in Langkawi, Malaysia; Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Croatia; and Bodrum, Turkey, later this year between November and December.

Ye Jianhua, President of the Guangxi Sailing and Windsurfing Association, emphasized that the “Belt and Road” International Sailing Regatta is organized with the goal of fostering mutual understanding and friendship among participating countries. He mentioned plans to expand with more domestic and international events in the future.

Josip Ostrogovic, a member of the Croatian Parliament, expressed enthusiasm at the pre-race press conference, highlighting that this year marks Croatia’s debut in the “Belt and Road” International Sailing Regatta. He sees this as a promising start, noting Croatia’s rich tourism resources and cultural heritage. Ostrogovic hopes to use this event as a platform to strengthen sports cooperation and to develop and promote tourism resources, aiming for a win-win partnership.
