2024 World Intelligent and Connected Vehicle Conference opens in Beijing

The 2024 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference kicked off in Beijing’s Yizhuang on October 17. The event, themed “Collaborating for a Smarter Future: Sharing New Opportunities in the Development of Intelligent Connected Vehicles,” is jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Transport, and the People’s Government of Beijing, spanning three days.

During the opening ceremony, Yin Li, a member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee, emphasized that the conference aims to enhance international communication and cooperation, promote the smart and green transformation of the automotive industry, create new efficient travel methods, and foster new driving forces for economic growth. In recent years, Beijing has leveraged its abundant innovation resources to accelerate the aggregation of key elements and improve the ecosystem of the intelligent connected vehicle industry. Looking forward, he stated, Beijing will collaborate with all parties to expedite the construction of an international science and technology innovation center and set a benchmark for the global digital economy, establishing a new hub for the development of the intelligent connected vehicle industry.

Wang Gang, chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, highlighted the tremendous achievements made by China’s intelligent connected new energy vehicle industry over the years. He noted that to move forward, it is crucial to consolidate national strategic technological resources and market innovation entities, nurture new types of components and infrastructure, enhance industrial collaboration and integration, and create a new ecological environment for industry development. Additionally, he stressed the importance of continuously elevating automation levels, promoting cross-regional demonstrations and multi-field applications, as well as strengthening research and development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, digital twins, and edge computing within the automotive sector.

Jin Zhuanglong, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, announced plans to develop a new era industrial development strategy for intelligent connected vehicles. The ministry will support collaboration across automotive, electronics, and software sectors, encourage the establishment of shared data and model training platforms for autonomous driving, implement integrated “vehicle-road-cloud” pilot projects, and enhance regulatory frameworks for high-level autonomous driving.

The conference features a series of unique activities, including an international policy roundtable, a corporate executive roundtable, and a forum on cross-regional coordinated development, alongside multiple themed events. Over 4,000 representatives from governments, businesses, and research institutions from more than ten countries and regions around the world have registered to attend.
