**Interview with a Rail Transport Official on the Surge of China-Europe Cargo Trains**
In a recent statement from the China State Railway Group, it was revealed that from January to September this year, China-Europe freight trains have operated a remarkable 14,689 times, marking a 13% increase compared to last year. Could you provide us with more details about this growth?
**Official:** Certainly! Over the first nine months, we transported 1.571 million standard containers, which is an 11% increase year-on-year. In September alone, we saw 1,633 train operations, moving 171,000 containers, both of which represent significant rises—15% and 12% respectively. It’s noteworthy that we have consistently surpassed 1,600 train operations each month for the past seven months.
What factors do you think have contributed to this remarkable growth in the China-Europe cargo rail network?
**Official:** This growth is a result of our enhanced railway infrastructure and the continuous development of key logistics corridors. This year, we focused on upgrading domestic ports and enhancing the capacity of the western, central, and eastern transport routes. We also strengthened cooperation with railways in countries along the routes to reduce operation times and improve port efficiency. Currently, our trains connect to 226 cities across 25 European countries.
Can you elaborate on any specific improvements in the operation of these trains?
**Official:** Absolutely. We’ve significantly increased the quality of services for the China-Europe freight trains. This includes expanding our operational schedule, organizing freight sources, and ensuring timely transportation. We have tailored train services to adapt to market demands and facilitated seamless connections with the Western Land-Sea New Corridor and the China-Laos Railway, ensuring the stability and smoothness of international supply chains.
What do the rising numbers indicate about China’s international trade landscape?
**Official:** The increase in both quantity and quality of China-Europe freight train operations clearly reflects the positive momentum of China’s foreign trade. Looking ahead, our focus will be on facilitating high-quality growth under the Belt and Road Initiative. We plan to enhance our international transport organization and continually improve the efficiency and quality of the freight train services.
Thank you for your insights!
