The Wang Jialian Community Health Center is hosting community open days, providing free flu and COVID-19 vaccinations for uninsured individuals. Appointments are required, and those interested can call (212) 966-0461 for scheduling or more information.
These open days will take place in two locations: in Flushing, Queens, and Chinatown, Manhattan. The first event is scheduled for Saturday, October 26, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Community Resource Center located on the 5th floor at 131-72 40th Road, Flushing. The second event will be held on Saturday, November 9, from 10 AM to 4 PM at 268 Canal Street, 1st floor, Chinatown. Vaccination times for both events will be from 10 AM to 1 PM. Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the medical center and access additional health resources.
As we approach flu season and with the ongoing presence of COVID-19, these vaccination events are vital for safeguarding community health. The center will offer flu vaccines as well as the latest Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, with appointments necessary by calling 212-966-0461.
Dr. Nuna Kim, the Medical Director of the health center, emphasized, “As a provider of community health services, we are committed to ensuring that patients and local residents have access to essential preventive care. The flu vaccine helps reduce the severity of flu cases and curtail its spread, while the upgraded COVID-19 vaccine offers effective protection against new variants.”
For the 2024-2025 flu season, the flu vaccine has been updated to effectively combat circulating strains, providing optimal protection. Annual flu vaccination is especially important for high-risk populations, including young children, pregnant women, seniors, and individuals with chronic conditions.
Similarly, the newest COVID-19 vaccine is designed specifically for recent variants, offering enhanced protection, particularly for those who have not been vaccinated in the past year. Getting vaccinated reduces the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and long-term COVID symptoms, which may persist after the initial infection.
The CDC recommends that everyone aged six months and older receive an annual flu shot, and they also advise that individuals aged six months and older get the COVID-19 vaccine, especially for those aged 18 and older who have not received the latest booster.
Those planning to participate in either vaccination event must make an appointment in advance, as the vaccines are available in limited quantities and will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis. To schedule an appointment or for more information, please call 212-966-0461.
