On October 20th, the second National Low Altitude Economy (Suzhou) Industry Innovation Expo officially kicked off. Themed “Wings Spreading Low Altitude, Guiding the Future,” this year’s expo features nearly 300 renowned enterprises showcasing cutting-edge technologies and products. Alongside the expo, events such as the 2024 China Drone Racing League (Suzhou stop), a youth drone competition, a professional drone piloting skills contest, and the “Imagining Low Altitude” thematic exhibition were held to highlight significant technological achievements in various segments of the low altitude economy.
According to officials, Suzhou is focusing on low altitude economy as a key point for developing new productive forces. On the industry front, a comprehensive industrial chain encompassing research and development, manufacturing, and application has been established. In terms of applications, the city is expanding smart logistics, aerial tours, and intermodal connections, launching over a hundred various flight routes and forming an initial “half-hour aerial commuting circle.” On the service side, the construction of an integrated “air-ground-space” infrastructure system is advancing, with nearly a hundred takeoff and landing points already established.
Liu Xiaotao, a member of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Suzhou Municipal Committee, emphasized that Suzhou is committed to a development approach focused on “rules first, scenario-driven, market-oriented, technology-backed, and safety as a priority.” This approach is fostering a vigorous momentum for “low altitude +” development. Currently, Suzhou is striving to become a national demonstration zone for low altitude economy, adhering rigorously to the national strategic layout by prioritizing safety, collaborating on technological breakthroughs, and enhancing service guarantees to create more opportunities for the community.
During the event, the launch of new flight routes and the unveiling of a demonstration island for an all-space unmanned system took place, as well as the release of planning for Suzhou’s low altitude takeoff and landing facilities, and the inauguration of new direct flight centers and takeoff points. The “Suzhou Low Altitude Flight Service Management Measures (Trial)” and a low altitude economy industry development index were also introduced.
In recent years, Suzhou has been actively promoting deep collaboration with major state-owned telecommunications companies, higher education institutions, and financial organizations to explore new pathways for the development of the low altitude economy. The event also witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements involving China Mobile and the Suzhou projects, strategic partnerships between the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and advanced technology transfer centers in the Yangtze River Delta, as well as various initiatives with logistics and telecommunications companies.
