Cold winds continue to blow in the central and eastern regions as Typhoon No. 20 -Tami- forms

On October 22, the Central Meteorological Observatory reported that a cold front swept through parts of northern Qinghai, central Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, and portions of Jilin and Heilongjiang, resulting in a temperature drop of 4 to 8 degrees Celsius. In Inner Mongolia’s Hulunbuir and the Greater Khingan Range in Heilongjiang, some areas experienced declines exceeding 14 degrees. The forecast predicts that this cold air mass will continue to impact central and eastern regions of China over the next couple of days, bringing temperature reductions of 3 to 6 degrees in Northeastern China, northern North China, eastern Huanghuai, and the Jianghuai region, with localized drops exceeding 8 degrees.

In addition to these temperature changes, the cold front is expected to bring significant rain and snow to Northeast China. From October 22 to 23, some eastern parts of this region may experience moderate to heavy rainfall, particularly in southeastern Heilongjiang and eastern Jilin, where localized downpours are likely. Snow or a mix of rain and snow is anticipated for eastern Jilin and Heilongjiang, with some areas forecasted to receive moderate to heavy snowfall, and even blizzards in certain spots.

Furthermore, Typhoon Trami, the 20th typhoon of the year, developed early this morning (October 22) over waters east of the Philippines. This tropical storm, named Trami after a type of rose family tree in Vietnamese, is forecasted to move northwestward at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour, gradually strengthening as it approaches the eastern coast of Luzon Island in the Philippines.

As a result of the combined effects of the incoming cold air and Typhoon Trami, the coming five days are expected to see strong winds in the Bashi Channel, waters east of Taiwan, the Taiwan Strait, much of the South China Sea, the Gulf of Tonkin, the Qiongzhou Strait, and along the southern coast of China. Maritime traffic should take precautions to ensure safety while navigating these areas.
