The Education University of Hong Kong organizes a series of sharing sessions to cultivate students’ positive values

HONG KONG, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) — In a bid to foster positive values and attitudes among students, Hong Kong Educational University (EduHK) recently hosted a series of lectures titled “Brilliant Moments: Achieving Our Core Values” at the North Point Teaching Center. This initiative is geared towards helping students navigate the challenges they may encounter in their future academic and professional endeavors.

From the fall of 2023 to the summer of 2024, a coalition including the Unity Hong Kong Foundation, the Chinese Cultural Research Institute, EduHK’s Center for Religious and Spiritual Education, the Joint Publishing Group, and Commercial Press will host eight sessions of the “Brilliant Moments” lecture series. Insights from these discussions have even been compiled into a published book. To provide a comprehensive understanding of this lecture series to educators, students, and the wider public, EduHK’s Center for Religious and Spiritual Education organized this special sharing session and book launch.

The event was co-hosted by EduHK President Li Tzi-kin and Unity Hong Kong Foundation CEO Li Zhengyi, drawing a large audience that included university students, secondary school students, school principals, teachers, and community members, all filling the venue to capacity.

In his opening remarks, President Li emphasized, “Values education allows for reflection and practice in self-improvement, contributing to personal growth and societal development.”

Guest speakers shared profound insights on 12 key values: resilience, respect for others, sense of responsibility, national identity, spirit of accountability, honesty, compassion, adherence to the law, empathy, diligence, unity, and filial piety. Their discussions prompted the audience to engage in deeper contemplation about the relationship between values and personal achievement.
