As the last ranking tournament leading up to the Year-End Finals in December, the 2024 China Badminton Masters serves as the concluding high-level event of the year for tournaments rated 750 and above.
In men’s singles, five players from the Chinese national team have made the main draw. This includes the world number one Shi Yuqi, Hangzhou Asian Games champion Li Shifeng, world champion Lu Guangzu, and Weng Hongyang. Notably, Lei Langxi, who has triumphed over two-time Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen this season, will also participate. Young player Wang Zhengxing will join as a reserve.
On the women’s side, while Tokyo Olympic champion Chen Yufei will not be competing, two top-ten female players from China, Wang Zhi Yi (ranked third) and Han Yue (ranked seventh), are registered. Zhang Yiman and Gao Fangjie will also be in the mix.
The men’s doubles field is led by the world’s top-ranked duo, Liang Weikang and Wang Chang. They will be joined by the active fourth-ranked pair, He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu, along with younger combinations like Chen Baiyang/Liu Yi and Xie Haonan/Zeng Weihang.
Should Liang Weikang and Wang Chang secure the title at the China Badminton Masters, they will earn a ticket to the Year-End Finals.
In women’s doubles, reigning Olympic champions Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian will team up for this event. Additionally, silver medalists Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning, along with 2024 China Badminton Open champions Li Yijing and Luo Xumin, and the pair Zheng Yu and Li Wenmei, will also be competing.
Mixed doubles is expected to be a highlight, as past Olympic cycles have shown strength in this category for the Chinese team. The tournament will feature the world’s top-ranked mixed doubles duo, “Yas” Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, alongside Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping, who recently won the mixed doubles title at the Denmark Open, and Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin, who claimed victory at the Indonesia Open. Young talents Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi and Guo Xinwa/Chen Fanghui will also showcase their skills on the court.
